Artist to Know & Follow: @tarawashere88
Have you heard of a Perler? Or perler art?
Well if you haven't, I'm about to hit you with the cream of the crop, the cherry on top, best of the best Perler I've come across on Instagram! And her name is simply, TARA.
To give you a little insight as to what perling actually is... Do you remember playing with those tiny little beads that had holes in them, when you were a kid? The ones that could be assembled into a turtle or a heart, and then your mom would melt them together with the iron.
Or better explained by PERLEST as:
Perler beads (as known as Hama beads or Nabbi beads) are plastic fusible beads. These colorful beads are usually arranged on plastic pegboards to form patterns and then fused together with a clothes iron. They can also be strung into necklaces, woven into keychains, or even assembled into three-dimensional decors.
I've been following Tara for a couple of months now. But the first time I came across her work, I was looking through the hash-tag Dragon Ball, and there was he work. Just from viewing that tiny little thumbnail, I had no idea what mind-blowing displays were waiting for me on her page. And then I clicked. And I was visually & mentally overwhelmed by what I was looking at. Because, like the image of Tara and Shenron above, she uses thousands & THOUSANDS of beads to create these one of a kind masterpieces!
And after witnessing her magnificent talent and patience for detail, I just had to tell you guys about her...
Name - Hi, my name is Tara!
Occupation? I'm currently unemployed but I sell some of my perler creations on my Instagram page! My most recent job was a laundry attendant at a hotel.
What's your Company Name? I just stick with my Instagram name I made back 2013. I never wanted to change it so it's tarawashere88.
Where are you from? I currently live in North Dakota, but I lived most of my life in Wisconsin!
Tell me a little about yourself. I live a pretty average life just spending my day beading mostly DBZ related perlers and hanging out with my two pugs Miya and Molly!
How long have you been an artist? All my life I have always had some sort of art form as a hobby and always try new things!
How & when did you figure out you liked doing this type of artwork? Back in 2013 I did all sorts of things from drawing, polymer clay, and working with resin. But then I discovered perler beads and that slowly but surely took over as my main art form!
Tell me about your process when you decide to create a bead project? The generic term for what I do is called fuse beads. I stick with perler and artkal brands! I usually start with game sprites that I edit to my liking in Microsoft paint! Sometimes that can even take hours!
What inspires you to create? It's pretty clear if you pop over to my Instagram haha. Dragonball Z is my number one inspiration!
What or who are your favorite characters to create? My favorite things are anything I can do that's big! Piccolo from dbz is my favorite and my largest project to date. He is made up of over 27k beads!
What are you currently working on? I have a few projects waiting for my attention including a large Vegeta and Goku perler. I'm taking a break so I can get some smaller stuff ready for my upcoming sale!
Who are some of your favorite artist? Perler beading and posting my creation has brought a lot of amazing friends in my life! I could go on and on about it (haha) but my friend Celina has a really awesome shop and does amazing work. Her Instagram handle is @hicelina and she also has links in her bio!
What would be your dream commission? (Like making characters for a popular video game franchise or 3D Animated hero movie.) Since it takes so much time to create anything big, my favorite thing to do is bust out as many smaller ones I can do, so I can give as much as I can in the same amount of time it would take me to do one large piece.
Hopefully, you're a huge fan of finding the coolest, hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind artwork. And after seeing what Tara can do with her two small, but well manicured hands, you'll want to contact her on Instagram, and have her create something for you that you will love for years to come. I'm think about a 3 foot She-Ra (hmm.)
